If someone goes into a store, establishes a new account and buys and iPhone, what exactly happens if they turn right around and cancels their contract?

It sounds crazy, but can they make someone return the phone?
Is there a way to activate/use the iPhone without going into the store?
Will normal SIM cards work correctly in the iPhone?

If you cancel your contract within 30 days, they take your phone. After that it's $175 for early termination fee.

OK, part two of this question.

What if you buy an iPhone and then ask to have another number, which was recently cancelled after buying the iPhone, ported to the new account? Is that possible?

No, you cancel, pay the ETF and lose the number😡
