I'm just curious as to what iMac would be faster or better for me. I currently use a Macbook but am looking around to get an iMac. I don't really mind which one I get (white versus aluminum) but I do know some of the advantages of getting the Aluminum one.

What would be faster of these two?

    20inch White iMac, 2.16GHz processor, 250GB HD, ATI Radeon X1600 128mb, 1GB Ram (up to 3Gigs)

    or a

    20inch Aluminum iMac, 2.0 GHz processor, 250GB HD, ATI RadeonHD 2400 128mb, 1GB Ram (up to 4Gigs)

I could imagine the White one has a faster processor (as they are both the same processor models... correct? C2D. But the Aluminum one has a more powerful Graphics card. I just want a machine that will guide me down the road up to 2, 3 years from now. They are both speed upgrades compared to my 1.83GHz MacBook.

The processors should perform at about the same level. The later 2.0 GHz model uses a 800MHz front side bus compared to 667 MHz for the older one, which ought to make up for the slightly slower processor frequency. The importance of the graphics card depends on your usage profile. As a rule, if you are not too much into gaming or video processing, you'll hardly notice the difference.

When the alu iMac was introduced, many people (including me:rolleyes:) have complained about the poor display quality of the 20" model, especially compared with the white iMacs.

So this is what you have to take into account: the white models can be slower from time to time due to the less powerful graphics. But the screen will look better all the time when you stick to the white series.
