What iOS version is on your iPhone X out of the box?

I'm just curious as I will be restoring from my other iPhone and want the iOS version to be identical.

Looks like I still have to upgrade both to 11.1 then reset the new phone to restore? 11.0.3 is on the old phone. Looks like 11.0.1 is on the new or at least some of them.

You can just update the X to 11.1. You older backup on your current phone should have no issues transferring to the X.

I just got brand new retail box iPhone X and it came with IOS 12.1 installed!?!? It was odd since based on the serial number it was manufactured in August but there is also small date marking (is it packing date?) on the right hand side lower corner of the serial number label at the back of the box that says 11/2018, so I guess it was packed at the factory in November. I was a bit worried since I noticed that even before I charged the battery the first time iMazing says 2 charge cycles?!?!

Should I be worried about manufacturing day / what ever that another (later) date marking on the box is?
Our other phones have that another day corresponding with the manufacturing date based on the serial number (and they came with IOS 11 preinstalled).
Do they really keep these so long at the factory stock (was sales so low) before boxing them or have they possibly repacked them when they preinstalled IOS 12.1? Or did they make these stockpiles ready so that they could move to XS production?

It came in sealed retail box, so I think it should not be refurbished / remanufactured. I picked it up from my dealer and I saw it was picked up from the the cabinet where they kept all their new iPhones they sell, so also that suggests it was standard retail product as it definitely looks like otherwise and I don't think they could (or at least should) sell remanufactured ones without telling it to customer.

This units has some cosmetic flaw right out of the box but so did my first one. Common thing with these is that based on the serial they are from the same factory (but different manufacturing date). My wife has another colour X and from different factory without any flaws what so ever (I pretty much examined it again with the "microscope" after getting another unit with cosmetic flaws because I could not believe I was so unlucky, but I really could not find any even minor cosmetic flaw on silver one).

Sealed box means nothing these days. It is possible to create a perfect seal nowadays, and you’d never know it’s not a new box.

I’d be very worried since, officially, Apple discontinued iPhone X production before iOS 12.0 was released, let alone 12.1.

Yours could be any one of an unofficially-refurbished device, an Apple replacement unit, a brand new returned phone, and anything in between.

Really? I was not aware there can be unofficially refurbished devices in original retail packing and that authorized resellers can sell them as new without mentioning it to customer. I mean is that even legal? Also I checked Apple web site for warranty and support and it shows there just like new unit does.

It is not possible Apple just made these so much that they only recently packed them or that they upgraded them befire shipping out? Nobody else got new X with IOS 12? I’m definitely worried since this unit has few cosmetic failures, I’m not sure i dare even check everything as more carefully I look at mine more faults I find.

Your theory is a possibility, but the supply chain logistics do not add up - I think it’s highly unlikely there would be an iPhone X sitting around for three months at the factory, waiting to be updated - especially more than two months after the release of th iPhone X.

However if the Apple warranty checks out, you should be good to go.

Yes, warranty and support definitely shows just like for brand new Apple product does. Any idea why serial number label shows month/year like I described in my first post? Nobody seen that happening in new retail product?
Does Apple really have refurbished products in retail box with all logos too (identical to retail product)?

Apple has not sold the iPhone X in refurbished form. Official refurbished Apple products come in a plain white box, with just the name of the product on the front and a “Certified Pre-Owned” label.

This is good to know. Like I said mine came in real retail box just like my first X and I cannot see any difference in packing other than this weird date marking on the serial label (first one had serial no and month code matching but this one has manufacturing date based on the serial no. 3-4 months earlier than month code. I have no idea what that month/year in the serial number label stands for, but I guess it could be the day the product was packet at the factory, or perhaps repacked in case they updated current stock with new IOS or perhaps charged batteries again due to long time in stock).

Anyone got new X for Christmas? Please report what IOS it came with and what is manufacturing date based on the serial number and what month/year yours have printed on the label?

iOS 12.0.1
I can't control the production date right now because I don’t have the box with me but the phone is new.

What are yours serial number 4th and 5th letters? Those can be seen in menu. Those show year and week of manufacturing. And then that another date code in the box is something else maybe packing or update day. Please report that if and when you have access to box it came in?

Anyone recently purchased a new iPhone X? What IOS, what manufacturing date based on the serial number and what date code on the box?
