Which iPad are you buying/keeping?

Ive been using my 2018 11 inch in its magic keyboard Case since it shipped to my home. I take it out of the case sometimes, but I primarily surf the web and consume a ton of media via the magic keyboard rather than tablet mode. The 11 inch is the perfect tablet size for sure, but I wanted to test The waters on the new screen. Pulled the trigger today on a 12.9 inch XDR with magic keyboard and have zero regrets after watching a few Disney plus movies in HDR and just using it like I’ve always used my 11 inch. The extra real estate is a treat, and I barely notice the weight difference which was a massive concern of mine. Since ive moved on from the straight tablet mode use case of the 11inch since the magic keyboard came out, I think the 12.9 inch is perfect for me since its serves as my mobile computing and media consumption go to, while my 13 inch MacBook Pro remains on its dock powering my 4K displays when I really need to do some office work. I watch a ton of HDR content on my iPad, and the display is a straight light cannon for that usage. I cannot speak towards some of the comments for artist editing/drawing content and using a pure black background to draw white lines, but the tablet is an absolute beast in the media Department.

I wont lie though, If apple put the XDR display in the 11 inch I wouldve just upgraded to that instead without even thinking twice about the 12.9 inch, which plays well into their strategy in maximizing profits and not allowing a beefy 11inch Cannibalize 12.9 inch sales lol.

I had a 12.9 before that I just never could get used to, always felt like I was dragging around a cookie sheet.
THIS is probably the BEST description of the 12.9 I’ve read so far (cookie sheet 😂), especially going from a 2018 11 to 2021 12.9. I’m torn, may exchange for a 2021 11 Going to give it a few more days before I decide.

I will be honest, I am absolutely jealous of the 12.9” screen after seeing all the photos and videos, but I just can’t handle the size comfortably. 11” it is for me and as soon as Apple upgrades the screens on these too, I will be the first to pre-order.
I think for some, the 12.9 requires the MKB for it to be practical. On the other hand, my 80yo mother bought the 12.9 and is fine with it. I bought her the MKB and she pretty much uses the iPad now as her main computing device.

As for me — I chose the 11, along with a MacBook and iMac so I have a variety of screen sizes.

Seeems odd because the 12.9 is 5th gen and the 11 is 3rd gen?
The smaller IPP’s started with 9.7 and then to 10.5 before increasing to 11. I’m coming from an original 9.7 IPP to the 11 inch. So with the new thinner bezels and larger size, it is noticeably bigger to me.

I replaced my 2018 12.9 pro with a 2021 12.9 pro and I love it. I have been using my pro alongside my M1 Air as a 2nd screen and this is even better.
Did the same. Currently going through all my HDR content. Like seeing the films all over new again.
the M1 world is great. Have the 12.9 pro, M1 Mac Pro 13 inch, and am saving for the M1X Mac Pro 16 inch, coming soon. It’s an Apple silicone world now. Moment of silence for Intel.

The 12.9 was the first iPad Pro that came out years prior to the 11. It had already gone through a few iterations before the 11 came on the scene. If I remember correctly, I think it even started at $799 — but I think it was basically just a larger screen regular iPad.

To your point, it would have been cleaner to have the two sizes available right at the beginning to avoid confusion.

12.9.” Mini-LED iPad Pro is a disaster.
#1. Blooming
#2. No color gamut improvements just better black levels
#3. Thunderbolt 3 not working at anywhere near Rated speeds
#4. Throttled M1 chip slowest M1 device
#5. Border edge shadow (worst defect I’ve ever seen now considered “normal”)
#6. Only possible benefit is watching HDR videos
#7. 8GB of RAM can’t be fully accessed
#8. Limited 8-bit display NOT 10-bit
#9. Limited cropped display out does not output full resolution or fill the screen on external displays.

Thankfully they have a solid return policy if you aren't happy.

Started with a 10.5-inch pro. Got impatient and bought iPad Air 4. It was a great device but I missed the 120-hertz screen and started using Procreate and Affinity Designer more and more. Bought the 512 GB 12.9-inch version and gave the Air to my parents who had been using a base iPad 7. This is an absolutely beast!! I’ll have this for a long time and never want to use Procreate on a smaller screen again.

I went 12.9 > 10.5 > 12.9 > 12.9. Tried the 11 when it came out along with 12.9, didn’t really consider it this time as used to size. Only thing I’d say is that this is a small upgrade from the 2018 version for many people, and extra thickness and weight is a small downside as well. I wasn’t going to buy one but sort of sold myself at last minute as it has become my most used device now almost.

Well that’s what I keep trying to figure out. With this big of screen I was thinking about Gamepass and my Xbox controller to play games in it. Idk if you need to download those or how it works?

mom afraid game downloads will take a lot of memory. I have movies I would like to install but maybe I can just install the ones I want to watch while traveling.

i currently have 128 on my first gen iPad Pro but I’ve not installed much because I knew I didn’t have the space. I have 57giga free of 128 on that iPad. But it’s all pictures and videos, don’t think I have any movies or games downloaded.
Sounds like 256 is the way to go.

Game pass and remote play Xbox’s games only use the xbox app/safari webrowser to stream the games over your local internet. Nothing needs to be install except the xbox app for remote play and safari for game pass streaming. There is no local option to DL the games offline and never will be so you don’t have to worry about space in that regard lol.
