iPhone 8 and 8 Plus move into 7's pricing
All 2018 phones cut
iPhone 11, 11 pro and pro max taking their place.

Those names still bug me... If I were to make the name, I would do as follows: iPhone R, iPhone Pro, and iPhone XL
XL might seem stupid, but I think using a name like Max or Plus would confuse people as to which is better, the Pro or the larger model. With XL, it simple says it's larger.

I expect lots of complaining on this forum after Tuesday.
its already began months ago.
No 5G, lack luster updates for a $1000+ phone. Sales probably will be lower than last year (which already were historically low believe it or not) as people holding on to phones longer now due to lack-luster updates (ie. Wow, upgrade from 2 lenses to 3 lenses camera for $1000+....)

So what happens to the people that have the X or want to get the XS Max in the meaning these phones may be cut from
production. Just meaning they won't sell them anymore?

If they are cut from production there will be many XS's available from resellers. The X was still selling this summer nearly a year after it was cut.

It must be really easy to self project on the internet about a new camera that you don’t even have _any_ knowledge of what it’s capable of producing. I mean, unless you have specific details of what you know Apple has in store for this new ‘tri-lens’ camera tomorrow going from two lenses to three lenses, do share with the rest of us.

Welp Gurman predicts the new phones will be iPhone 11, iPhone Pro and iPhone Pro Max.

Ugh. I don’t mind the XR replacement becoming iPhone 11. That makes sense. And Apple will position it as the iPhone for most people. I don’t even mind the XS replacement being called iPhone Pro. But iPhone Pro Max sounds horrible. The don’t do it with the iPads so why do it with the iPhones. Just have it be iPhone Pro and it comes in 2 sizes.

If there’s a single thing I hope the rumour mill has got wrong, it’s the naming. I absolutely loathe the ‘Pro’ moniker and don’t think it fits with iPhone at all. The forum is evidence that there’s already snobbishness about XS vs every other iPhone, and to me it just feels like putting Pro in the name underlines that.

But then again, the naming is currently a mess and at least Pro brings it in line with the rest of Apple’s range.

For next year, my vote would be for simplicity.

iPhone (5.4”)
iPhone Plus (6.1”)
iPhone Max (6.7”)

But that wouldn’t work if the 6.1” model remains the lower price, mainstream, Everyman choice.

Hmm. Ok I was gonna get my daughter an XR for her first phone. And I was gonna upgrade to an XS Max from an 8 Plus but not sure now what to do if both these phones are gonna be cut from production. Does that also mean if they are cut they won't get anymore IOS updates?

No they will most likely get iOS updates for years to come.

I know what your talking about there definitely is a snobbishness about the XS and XS Max from a small minority of owners. I’ve overheard this being said to someone I know - “Oh you’ve just got the XR I got the XS Max because it has the better screen.” I think the Pro is only going to make that worse. I never made a song and dance about having the Max it’s just a phone to me.

Ok, I think I am understanding this now. So the XR will be the iPhone 11, the XS and XS Max will be the pro and pro max?
So that's why they will remove the XR XS and XS Max from production.

Yes this is correct.

If they do keep the XR on sale, I can imagine it dropping down to just black and white versions. Otherwise, alongside the new 11, there’d be way too many variants to display in stores without it becoming a confusing mess.

But then again, a confusing mess is what the current lineup is and has been for some time.
Or maybe they'll keep the colors they axed for the 11.
