Now there are four generations of iphone... i personally like the original iphone 2G the best.. i still have it even though dont use it anymore...

iPhone 2g really brought the mobile technology into a new era

I like the 4 the best. Software updates aside, I think it was the most capable software and hardware option at the time of it's release

I'm not quite sure what you're asking here. Do you mean what design do we like best or what generation? If it's generation obviously I'm going to pick the most recent.

The first iPhone was the most revolutionary and most robust.

The 4th iPhone is my favorite because it has 512 MB of RAM for it not to crash so often like the original and has enough features and speed to still be a nice basic smartphone for years to come. All the features I wanted from the first gen phone like a decent camera, video recorder, and good enough CPU speed finally came true with the iPhone 4.

I like the 4 the best. The edge to edge class (basically without a bezel) looks so sick. The screen is also darker when the it is off which makes it look cooler.

+1 on the 3g3 form factor. It felt more natural to hold and slip into a pocket. I hope the i5 goes back to this, or closer to it than the i4.

As far as design:
1.iPhone 2g
2. iPhone 4
3. iPhone 3G/S
I actually hated the scratchable plastic on the iPhone 3g/s

As far as function, the 3GS on 3.0 seemed the most fluid and smooth, but the iPhone 4+iOS 4 is certainly nice.

The iPhone 2G aluminum backing was easy to scratch too and had a different color underneath when scraped by car keys. Even the back glass of the iPhone 4 was less durable than its front glass and attracted fingerprints just the same.

Nothing is really scratch-proof. Almost any part of an iPhone can get ruined with enough abuse. Everything from scratching the camera lens, the USB port, and the bezel. My brother dropped his iPhone 4 once and it showed a tiny black scratch mark on the stainless steel band. Like this black line on it.

But I agree that the 3's felt good in the hand even though it rocked lying on a table and felt cheap because it was lighter.

I guess we can say nothing is really indestructible. When people want to maintain its perfection, it is almost like they end up covering it up with screen protectors and cases to hide its true beauty. When they don't, it will be marred by real world abuse and fingerprints.

Again, nothing can be perfect if used alot. Like trying to maintain perfection with a car and avoiding zero scratches from two years of driving it. Almost impossible. Tiny rocks and dents are bound to happen.

MY iPhone 2g didn't have a scratch on it when I sold it. My iPhone 3g/s would scratch from looking at it the wrong way. It was impossible not to scratch the thing, and it looked really oily and bad. Plastic was a terrible choice for the backing.
The iPHone 4 is a little scratched, but it's nothing like the 3GS.

From a design standpoint, I loved the 2g iPhone. The aluminum back was simply beautiful. I was never a fan of the curved (and plastic) backs for the 3g and 3gs. The iPhone 4 was better but not as aesthetically pleasing as the 2g for me.

I liked the iPhone 4 prototype that got the dude in jail. It's so bad, like the power glove.
