Google

I did a search on Google and found this info...

Office of the Secretary of the Navy
(703) 694-4603
1000 Navy Pentagon
Washington, DC 20350-1000

even more disturbing...

Precision Kuts & Wellness Hair & Nail Salon
7525 45th Ave
Kenosha, WI 53142-4203
Phone: (262) 694-4603

neither of my hard drives at home have the number anymore...I'm guessing it's because I've reinitialized both drives since getting them?

but I do know I've been wondering for a couple years now what that number means...he he ;)

You didn't read my earliest post, did u?

Every ATA/IDE drive, when formatted, needs a serial number.

well my HD says 694-4584....seems like no one else's says this number...

google says its could be the number for chapel services for the air force or a mental illness center in NYC haha...who knows.

I've known abou this for a while but actually never investigated it. Here's the number on my drive in my new computer.

The only thing I can imagine is that you've rebuilt your desktop without saving your comments.

'Phone numbers' on Apple CD's too!

I don't mean to shoot down everyone's creative explanations, but the 'phone numbers' are most likely part numbers. On every Apple branded CD (I mean physically on the label side of it under the version number) I have, there is a 'phone number,' different for each CD, and each also has "-A" after the number. Also, for the OS X installation discs, a number and then the letter Z precedes the number. For example, my two Jaguar CD's say 2Z691-3704-A and 2Z691-3705-A, and my iBook OS X Install Disk (10.1) says 1Z691-3060-A.

Of note is that for my iBook Software Restore Discs, the number in the comments field does not match the number on the CD label (693-3682 and 693-3683 in the comments field, but 691-3354-A and 691-3355-A on the CD's), and all my other discs don't have numbers on the comments field.

SJ: Yes. What do you want?
Me: An Apple PDA and cell phone.

Me: Hello?.... Hello?

Three weeks later, I get a $86 bill from Apple. Bastard called me from his 40 million dollar jet and wants me to pay for the call.

HAHAHAHAHAHA! That was great. Yeah i work with some Macs old and new and I see a similar number. I have reformated my iBook so maybe thats why there is no number on there. I'll check my Dad's G4 and my G3 Mini Tower when I get home... I'm on a tiny trip. Silly 56k.... so slow.... :p

LimeiBook86, you could have made your numbers add up to make it at least a little believable!

ok well i think each number is different becuase were listing al differnet hard drives here. mines 694-4782 and i have a 120GB IBM drive. ohh and if someone is really curious, why dont you call up apple care and let them investigate for you.

tyler

It's probably just the code number of the disk image Apple used when installing the system during build up. My iBook 600 is 694-4607

This is what it looks like on my 1.25Ghz DP.
