Keep track of expenses etc etc. ? I have been looking at quick books but am wondering if there is anything just as good and not $200

Spreadsheets are made for that sort of thing. Have you heard of Excel

I think Excel (or MS Office) is a good investment too.
MYOB is a good alternative to QuickBooks, although it's not really any cheaper as far as I know.
