I just got around to installing Beta 4, and to say I'm unimpressed would be a massive understatement. About all I've seen so far is the Passwords app (big whoop dee doo) and the dictionary app bizarrely having a new "bookish" font, I haven't really noticed much difference. I know we get the mirroring app for iPhone but: a) not going to install beta on my iPhone; b) not really a feature I'll use in practice. I know we're getting some AI stuff but that all comes much much later.

Like you say, not all features are included yet because it's a beta and it's not going to officially release for another couple months.

The iPhone mirroring feature is huge for me so I'm happy with 15. I'm looking forward to Apple Intelligence. Otherwise, it's just another refinement with some nice QoL changes. The days of huge OS updates are over.

I hope the AI stuff is particularly useful. I use Grammarly so will have to wait and see.

What other QoL things? I know we’re getting a window manager but we’ve had 3rd party utilities for forever so not really new.

I guess it just seems kinda sad that everything has gone stagnant. Gone are the days when an update was exciting. Also really annoying that Apple’s current M.O. is to announce features no one is getting on launch, at some later unspecified time.

i post this with every new OS version, but, for me, more than a lot of the new 'features', i care about what happens under-the-hood, and in that respect, imho, sequioa represents forward motion, improvement.

not everyone agrees with that 🤣

Care to expand on this? Are you perhaps referring to developer frameworks? Such as to enable some new experience, apps that could not be created before? Or are we getting a new smoothness, some efficiency, or battery longevity?

system runs well; fast, efficient. my battery life is good. all my apps work (my major concern).

am describing my experience only, but... it does feel smoother, and (with the current beta), pretty stable. perfect? no, but no OS ever is...

What's different about it? From my experience it's "better all round", particularly when compared with Ventura and Sonoma. Look, feel, smoothness, reliability, speed. Which all adds up to a more enjoyable user experience.

I don't run much on it that's too weird or demanding however so YMMV

as far as I can tell nothing is smoother or less smooth. I was able to get the AI “update” today so was able to try out the proofreading feature and compare to Grammerly. It seems pretty promising however I had to dump text into Notes app as Scrivener uses a different text engine (or Apple only allows in notes, mail, pages) so that’s kinda a bummer. It also requires to highlight the text which is a strange design decision when you just want to start proofreading a document.

Give it time. You'll find out some stuff that used to work is broken in Sequoia and there won't be any fix or replacement

This is the way

Not really noticing any major bugs. Just seems underwhelming in features.

Sequoia, mark my words, is shaping up to be a far superior macOS version. T'ain't hard to figure out assuming ya'll have actually run it, of course ;)

Let the "fanboy" insults commence. I may be back next week if I have time and don't have better things to do, which is highly unlikely.

Could you provide an example or two? I'm having trouble understanding what exactly you're referring to. "This is the way..." eh? Jeesh.

In which way is Sequoia looking different?

I'm impressed that Sequoia has run so well from the very first developer release.
Even if there isn't a big "new feature list".

Again, the Passwords app could be the #1 improvement with this release.

Well there's a thread right on this forum of what software work and don't on Sequoia. Most of these issues will be resolved eventually but not all

Especially specialized 3rd party software. For ex sshfs doesn't work on Sonoma because a component it relies on uses some API that got dropped

Why should new OS versions break apps anyway, esp when there are not even enough new features to warrant a whole version every year

Yeah, there aren't too many new features, but I am really enjoying iPhone notifications on my Mac, iPhone Mirroring, the Passwords app, creating my own routes in Maps, having Reminders in my Calendar, and background replacement in FaceTime. Small stuff, but it adds up.

the "windows-box-thingee" seems like an improvement, but some have claimed that one program
takes dominance over another when one needs to switch windows apps.

i was curious to see if windows browsing (as in swapping files)
in finder was back instead of tab browsing.

I find the implementation to be hot garbage. For some strange reason, when, say, you place a window in the left or right half; the damn window doesn't fill out the whole half, leaving empty space around the window. Like, why not have the window stretch out to fill the whole space?
