My question is what is an unlocked iPhone?
How does it work?
Normally carriers lock their phone to their own network. So if the phone is unlocked then the phone can be used on any network. Mostly counts towards GSM networks like at&t and t-mobile in the USA.
Same as any other unlocked device: SIM is not restricted to one carrier.
Unlocked = unshackled from a single cellular provider.
Can u imaging choosing a vendor to sell u electricity? Kinda like that.
U can divorce from Ma Bell if u want to.
I haven't heard it called that in quite a while
Yes, unlocked means you can hitch your buggy/cart to any pony you want.
Can you have no carrier on it?
That's what people here say using an iPhone as an iPod.
But u can do that with a locked phone too. The locking just means every time, when and u do get on the cellular, you have to pay cellular vendor X, but you are not forced to use electricity if u don't want to.
Yes, but if you want to use it as a phone you will need to purchase wireless service from any gsm carrier.
How do you get the phone with these settings? And how much do you think it'll cost?
"Use a phone with these settings" doesn't make sense.
Just don't put a sim in it, simple as!
What will it cost to put no sim in
How much does it cost to buy an iPhone but to use it as an iPod with no contract nor carrier?
It depends where you live.
I would buy the phone from ebay, can get pretty good deals if you look hard enough
Thanks a lot
The full price device only no contract prices are listed below:
iPhone 5s 16GB $649
iPhone 5s 32GB $749
iPhone 5s 64GB $849
iPhone 5c 16GB $549
iPhone 5c 32GB $649
Are you asking this because you're a developer as your signature indicates?
No, but I guess that could be one way to use it! I just love the size and the look of the iPhone but don't really need the actual data and stuff. And I mostly use the developers license for doing things on Mac OS X
Unless bought used, that's one expensive iPod.
Oh well, your wallet.
I think I'll look for a good deal online. Used is fine for me though.
