Can you all provide me with some recommendactions on what software to use to digitize my extensive DVD movie collection/library?? I will be getting one of the Apple USB SuperDrives (unless someone can recommend better device) to hook up to a MacBook Pro. I’ve literally got 100’s of titles and want to get everything prepared to preserve, but to also be used in a home multi-media center like Plex.

Any advice will be appreciated… just looking for what has worked best for you all…

Yes, and then Handbrake
I have heard of the Handbrake software, but not the other… i looked at handbrake and am not sure what file i should be downloading to install what i need.

Thanks for the recommends!

Anything else out there that is considered good? I would think since it is processor intensive task, the speed the software works would also be significantly considered?

Typically, 1GB per hour. After using MakeMKV, I use Permute to cionvert to mp4 if I want a smaller file. That app is very quick as well.
That’s not too bad at all. I’ve done all my music CDs and have been thinking of doing DVDs.

The dmg from macOS - For 10.13 and later - Download (Universal), currently HandBrake-1.5.1.dmg

At Video Encoder use H.264 (VideoToolbox) for hardware encoding
Apple VideoToolbox https://handbrake.fr/docs/en/latest/technical/video-videotoolbox.html

Short answer, yes. - they are DVD’s that i have bought for may years over… everything from just plain vanilla DVD to the BlueRay…

I used to use handbrake and after apple made some system security changes or something it quit working. I didn't get my DVD library converted before they did
