What is console?

What is console and does it have any significant importance?It came up while I was looking up something with my printer,there is a huge amount information in one of the pages called error_log,what is this all about?

Essentially, Console is a viewer for all the (many) log files kept by your Mac. Errors and crashes are recorded in some of those logs.
