Using Apache on my new iMac. I've just created my first simple web page which I can access at 192.168.x.x/~username from my local network.

My question, where do I find the external IP address so that my friends can also access this web page?

Greatly appreciate any help.

It is supplied by your ISP. If you have a router you might be able to login to the admin pages and find it. Unless you have a static IP address assigned by the ISP it is possible that you will get a different address whenever the router reboots or your lease expires.

You'll also have to forward port 80 on the router to whichever computer is hosting the web page.

External IP address

Yes, port forwarding 80 did the job - many thanks.
