What is "JABBER"

With the previous IO-S and now with Sierra, when using "mail", I see the word Jabber down in the lower left hand corner of the mail screen. Mostly it says Jabber in available.

Actually, it is a XML-based communications protocol called XMPP. Jabber is the easier name to remember.
