My best friends mom has an old 133 all-in-one Compaq Presario. I upgraded it to 32 megs of ram when she go it. She uses it everyday for Aol and such, even as an answering machine. Amazes the **** out of me. For as much as she uses that computer she probably should get a new one. But she still refuses to buy a new one. Ahh she's completely irrational anyone who charges their son to drive them to college aswell as demands 100 bucks a week rent over the summer to sleep on a couch has problems.

About a year ago as a favor for a guy I know I set up a lab of Mac SEs at a local preschool. He had me set them up on little tiny desks and then Appletalk them all to a network printer and a central Mac II "server." Thankfully there were no preschoolers there to get in my way ;)

I love my Wallstreet.

I've owned several PowerBooks since, including a 667 MHz TiBook, but the old Wallstreet II is still my favorite. Sure, it's been upgraded. It started life as a 233MHz/32MB(+64MB added immediately)/2GB/14.1" and now it's a 500MHz/768MB/30GB/14.1" with RoadRocket, DVD, Firewire, USB, 250MB and 100MB internal Zip drives and internal floppy. Nothing beats the versatility of being able to run 2 batteries simultaneously, swap out batteries for expansion modules, use SCSI, ADB, USB and Firewire, and watch DVDs (although not while running OS X, ..although even at 500MHz, OS X performance SUCKS on the thing). Under System 9 or 8.6 (which I have on a partition to allow use of a serial webcam), it's as fast as I need for everything but video editing.

It's been through 3 modems, 3 power inverter boards, a sound board, a trackpad and a couple of sets of hinges. But it's the most beautiful laptop I've ever owned (yes, including the TiBooks).

My high school's media center has a old Mac Classic Color running "Alexandria." It's a program they've got that operates as a simple catalog and search for the library.

and

Up until a few years ago I used a Mac Classic II for MIDI sequencing.

mt friends dad has a duo 230. the things great. the keyboard only works sometimes, and the screen has some weird lines in in, but its really a great machine. back in elemantary school, they were still using apple ][e's every so often, but that was 4 years ago. and two years ago, in junior high, there were some mac classics, but they were going into storage. hell, in my highschool, there is an lc with a monitor and eveerything next to the copy machine. hopefully it's still there, i'm gonna make them and offer to buy it. also, my friends dad has a performa in their basement. untill recently, it was used often.

In 1995, lightning ruined our Compaq Pressario 425, and I was addicted to BBS's. The library had no computers for public use back then, and I didn't like going to my friends' houses just to use their computers. I finally went up to the attic and broke out the Commodore 64. AOL wouldn't support my QuantumLink software, but I finally found a little terminal program. Though I was used to my high speed 2400 modem, I logged on to The Nightwatcher BBS at a blazing 300 bps. It sucked, but it satisfied my cravings for a couple of weeks!:D

ten year old laptop/33 mhz...wow, that is amazing:D

Apple ][e

We still have an Apple ][e that we keep at my grandparents home. Sometimes i take a look at the old programs that my mom used to use. I also sometimes play Family Feud or Lemonade Stand to pass some time.

My 5300 used to be a our main computer until we got the ibooks (and soon dual ghz), then it became a place to pass sometime, then one day the hard drive died. So me and my brother went to the closest second hand electronics store and paid £5 for 120 mb hard drive and itstalled a very basic system 8.6 and now it is a fully functional tv with remote.

one of our oldest Avid system turn everyday on a 9500-132... no probs.
but Avid love old technology...( no Quicktime codec for osX...).

z-)

I had a roomate that was using my Pmac 8100 15 months ago. At work we have a Mac SE that we still use as a VT100 console to connect to our Cisco gear, when we don't want to bring our laptops down. It makes a great serial console box.

I have a wallstreet Powerbook 233 that I still use a few times a day but I also have a 933 Quicksilver PowerMac G4. I am running 10.1 on the powerbook and its slow in photoshop but in other stuff it is quick enough and not as slow as some people think. I also have some older macs that i boot up once in a while for fun but they are not useful for much anymore.

my mother still uses a power mac 6100/66...it was one of the first computers to include a cd-rom drive in it i believe...she uses is with os 5 or 6? i'm thinking 5 almost daily because she is used to the grading program on it and the school she works for is only on os 7 or 8 yet...damn private schools are so behind the free world

i also have a powerbook 190cs that i used to use to play simple little games on late at night when i had insomnia not sure what the year on it is, but it sure seems old and slow running os 7 or 8 and the battery is very very worn out

My oldest daily-use mac is my 17" iMac 800mhz :p

What can I say, I just recently switched over from peecees!

Come on jef, this has to be some sort of record! It's two days old!

well, it certainly is the newest mac on this thread

i suspect [some] of these old macs people are mentioning are not used daily or weekly, but more like one a month or once every six months:p

with my time i have on the computer, i don't think i would be booting up an apple IIe that often if i had a dual g4 in the same room:D

lol. Man, u must be happy. u have the newest computer on MR.
Do u like it? I saw one at CompUSA yesterday and it was playing Lord of the rings. I have to say, the 16:9 aspect ratio is much better for DVD movies and god, what detail LOTR had! Congrats on ur purchase.

I really love this thing, watched Lord of the Rings on it Saturday, then watched the last few chapters again.. man the picture is sharp! It really is a wonderful machine, and I wish there wern't so many on backorder so people could enjoy this as much as I am. Definately worth half my summer pay :) Hope I saved enough for college... :D

O well, college can wait. U got WCIII to play!:D

I still use a powerbook 180 on a regular basis to run Master Tracks Pro. I bought it used in '99 specifically because it was the only powerbook I could find at a reasonable price that had seperate modem and printer ports--a midi interface on each one. My main machine is a beige g3 with g4 upgrade on which I use Digital Performer as well as loads of other software. The powerbook was originally intended for use live, now it's a matter of convenience. I can load in recycled loops etc. and edit them while I have something else going on in my g3. When doing electronic music it's always handy to have various tools for creation and my old Master Tracks set up still holds up. I've also got an old performa 6400 which my kids use for playing cdroms. Eventually I plan to convert it to an mp3 jukebox and hand down our imac to the kids when we replace it.

I just bought a 9600/300 for my main machine at home. Have already got it to run 10.2. With 12 RAM slots, 6 PCI slots, 1 processor slot and 4 5.25" drive bays, I can put anything in there I want.

My sister uses a 7200/75 w/Crescendo to do her WP and web.

I have two notebooks I use at home.

One is a Wallstreet 266 w/128 Ram. Good enough for Word, Quicken, a bit of PhotoShop work.

The other is a 1993/4 Compaq Contura Aero 486SX-25 with 8MB Ram, 8" monochrome display, and running Win 3.1! I use it for writing fiction and short stories, plus the occasional game of Civ! They don't make ultralight notebooks with 90% keyboards anymore. I love typing on that thing - I hardly move my fingers!!!

Can't believe I payed about the same amount of money for each of these computers when they where new
