What is "Other"?

I did a fresh restore today from a backup on my Mac and now the "Other" portion on the phone is massive! Over 9 gigs! My 32 GB iPhone 5 had 9.96 gigs of free space before I did this and now I am down to 4.02! What on Earth could be taking up so much space?

Why not try searching? This subject has already been discussed ad nauseam.

Indeed, try to use the search function. The 'Other' category can be lots of things.

"Other" would be all of the uncompressed photos in iMessage
