So this morning I went to google.com, but it went to piraty.com instead. Does anybody know what this is? Is it something that I should be worried about?

    Thank you,
    Michael

To make sure I have this correct: You typed "google.com" in your browser and were redirected to "piraty.com?"

If im correct, is "google.com" the only query that yields this issue?

Yes, you are right. Google is the only site that it happened with.

Sounds like your browser was hijacked.
Or something is screwed up with your DNS server.

Let's wait for some input from others, I'm relatively new to Apple.
I have 12 years of Windows experience though and thats what this looks like.
I run cmalXav because I exchange alot of files with Doze users.
Maybe look for a mac specific scan on the internets.

Have you tried to go to Google.com to try to reproduce the issue? A reinstall of OSX is normally a last resort option and it really isn't necessary in this instance. I highly doubt you have some sort of malware on your computer unless you have been downloading torrents or been on other questionable websites.

Try to go to google.com again and see if it redirects you to the same website again, if this happens, then there may be a more serious problem, if it goes to google, then you should be all ok.

That should really be your last resort. If you're using safari try resetting it by clicking Safari and then Reset Safari. If you're still having problems download a trial of MacScan and scan ur mac.

It *may* be a DNS changer trojan. See http://www.dnschanger.com/ for a solution. Also, check any proxy settings you may have changed. If that doesn't work, time to talk to your Internet Provider.

In the meantime, you can access Google by http://208.69.36.231 (one of many).

Run a scan with iAntiVirus to make sure your mac is clean. If it is a DNS changer trojan, iAntiVirus should be able to detect and remove it.

Waddya know? So it does. Apparently it's called typo-squatting: registering a domain that corresponds to a common typo of another popular domain.
