What is that cracking sound?

What actually is that cracking sound that comes from old computers (like the iMac G3, anyone got a link to a video with the sound? Weirdly i really like the sound. BTW i think its hard drives?

Just buy an old 286 with a 40mb hard drive and a metal case.

You'll get all the hard drive access sounds you want to hear and you can hear it comfortably 10 feet or so away. 😀
