Anyone using the 2010 5,1 Mac Pro audio Line out? I'm connecting this output to a set of external powered speakers, and find that the Line Out is too 'hot'/loud.

Some searching around suggest the Mac Pro might be outputting at +4dB, is that right? Most home audio gear is expecting -10dB. Is there a built-in attenuator that can be toggled on the Mac?

Not sure what you mean by hot.
I have speakers connected to line out, speakers have volume control which I set to 'a level' and I adjust volume from Mac desktop.......!

The sound volume is too loud. Even with the Mac's volume at one 'notch', it's too high for the amplifier input.

Just had a look at my setup, I leave the volume on the speakers at about 25%, and adjust from the desktop to suit.
Which would explain why yours sounds so loud as they would be at 100%.......!
Speakers I have had, always have an external volume control.
