Exactly whay I'm doing, from a 7 bought day one to a 12 6.1" day one, I'm excited ! 😊

I am in the same boat with a 7 and looking towards a 12 Pro. However I do sometimes wonder if it is worth paying $1000 considering my 7 still works like a champ (6+ hours of work phone calls, FaceTime, backup to my MB Air for browsing etc.)

Will you use the 12pro max features? Such as the big screen (oled is superior to lcd enough that sometimes I marvel at the images my xs max display), camera (night mode), telephoto (appears to be 5x according to rumors), better speakers. Those were some of the things the max version offers over the good old 7. There’s many more obviously. I for one think the 6.1 is enough but I really want a big screen phone.

Excellent points. Considering I take all my 6+ hours of work phone calls via external speakers that itself should be sufficient for an upgrade. The speakers on the 7 can sometimes sound very jarring. Add in the OLED, huge camera upgrades and I think it would be worth the upgrade. I want to pay a bit more and get the pro (6.1 unless there are features exclusively on 6.7) so I don't need to upgrade for another 5 years.

I bought my iP6S+ when the iP7 was announced. A few months ago it started to drain the battery rapidly, even when switched off. After replacing the battery twice and resetting to factory, nothing fixed the drain. Looks like the PMU has had it. That makes just under 4 years of useful life for this one. It is the only phone I have ever owned that has failed me.

The speakers on the 7 sounded tiny. I noticed the difference when I upgraded from 7plus to 8plus.
We can always keep the stuff we have till it breaks down. I could havekept driving my reliable old 1998 Mitsubishi Eclipse till now. I bet you that thing is still running somewhere in this country. That car was a tank!

One feature that especially interests me about the Pro Max is the LIDAR scanner (I think some rumors say the Pro will also have it?). Having been out of the market for so long, it's kind of surprising that the smallest iPhone 12 screen will be the same size as my 6s Plus (~5.5 inches). There used to be a lot of discussion that the 6s Plus was just too big, although I suppose things are different now since the bezels have gotten smaller.

I don't talk much on the phone and like the idea of a small tablet like the Pro Max.

I still have my iPhone 6 and the battery is starting to get rather weak. And with the lack of iOS updates I can't even download the COVID contact tracing app (I'm sure there are plenty others, but that one was the first and only one so far that I wanted to download) The reminders app also reminded me that I can't use the newer features due to my phone being on iOS 12 still.

Speed-wise it's okay-ish, the limited RAM is noticable.

I'm not on my 6s for the internet at all times anymore. I got a 2020 MBA right around the time the pandemic started so I am not charging it every night and I am not using it track my routes when I go on walks since I have stopped because of the pandemic. (I don't know what it would do to me because of my health.) Yeah, the battery capacity took a hit. I can at least get to one percent again and it won't die at that point. I should say sometimes at least it will get to 1%.

For the hardcore MR members, 1 year max. For normal people, I would guess 3 - 5 years.

I’m in that group of hardcore MR members who upgrade every year. Last year I had some financial issues that I fixed this year so I wasn’t able to upgrade to the 11 Pro Max, but this year, I will definitely be upgrading to the 12 Pro Max!

My first iPhone was bricked by an update in its 3rd year. Sold it for $20 for parts. But that was probably a fringe case.

My mother is still using my iPhone 6 that I got in 2014, so six years already. She had the battery replaced but other than that it's working perfectly.

I could see an iPhone lasting 10 years or more if well taken care of. The battery will need replacement, but it's a consumable so that's not surprising.

Only if someone using iPhone as a phone, not anything else. I mean, iPhone 5 which released around 2012, only 8 years, it stuck at iOS 10. There are not many apps that runs on this iOS anymore.

10 years is little bit structuring. I would say iPhone from iPhone 7 could see other 2-3 years of support. I am fully confident that iPhone 7 which release around 2016 could easily last until 2023, which gives around 7 years of support.

How long can they last? Indefinitely. How long do they last? Until about October each year.

I've had iPhones since the 2G and the length I used them varies.. On average, I use my iPhone for 3 years before upgrading, except from 4 to 4S.

2G - 3 years
4 - 1 year (then used by my mum for another 3 years)
4S - 3 years
6 - 4 years (then used by my wife for another 2 years)
X - Almost 3 years

My iPhone X is still going strong and fast. Planning to use it for another year before upgrading to iPhone 13 next year.

I plan their obsolescence. I replace mine every other cycle. I'm on the Xr, and so should upgrade to 12. But, I don't know if there will be a reason? Find out in about 20 min.

I do the same with Cars, sure you can keep and maintain blah blah blah, where is the fun in that. YOLO.

Guess 5 years after battery change will be pretty solid. For MBP, I am using for approx. 10 years after SSD and memory swap. For iPad counting 7 years and I will use until it broke.

seeing the iPhone 12 prices, even for the mini be 780$ over here, it will be 5.5 years at least if my OG SE makes it till iPhone 13 Mini or the 12 Mini at a reduced price.

Even in US. I'm sitting on an Xr, I see no reason to go to the 12. I'd be better off going to 11 for the Ultra-Wide camera. I don't care about 5G, I don't even reliably get LTE, but 90 % of time, my phone is on WiFi anyway. Esp since COVID.

Don't get me started on the "Pro" models. I'm not creating drone shots of running horses anytime soon.

Damn, I'm sounding old.🤣
