Youo must have had one from a very bad batch or something. I am looking at a white line on a black background right now and it is very sharp, no red fringe. Also my monitor is perfectly level. I guess ymmv.

I find this difficult to believe.

The service centre for Samsung ended up suggesting a refund because they tested several other monitors and found none that would meet my expectations. I have since seen this same lack of focus on a Dell 24 inch which also uses a S-PVA panel. I think it is the nature of PVA to have this blurriness.

That reason alone would make me stay away from anything with a PVA panel inside. I think even a TN panel is preferable if colour accuracy is not important.

Also the stand for the Samsung was woefully inadequate to support such a heavy monitor. Wobbly plastic and very bad design. I'm sure there are many that are not level. You might have been lucky there though.

Any news about new 30" Apple Display?

I'm convinced about the quality of Apple displays. I am ready to purchase two 30" screens (also for DAW in my music production studio), but if Apple will release the new 30" display with LED backlight by the beginning of 2009, I would prefer waiting for it. Does somebody have any new information? Thanks.

I'm in the same boat. No one knows for sure, but since they have just released a 24" LED backlit model for laptops and since Steve Jobs said that they will transition their whole product line to LED I think it's very possible we will see a 20" and 24" model soon (early 2009). Not sure about the 30" as it has been said to be cost prohibitive to produce large screens with LED backlight. Perhaps this is no longer the case, but the other 2 are very likely to be updated soon.

Thanks for these informations! Personnally, I would not choose the 24", if 30" would come much later or would be much more expensive, I think that I'll go for the existing one...For the moment I only use one 19" display, running a complete DAW with of lot of plug ins etc. is a nightmare...
