Buying with my American Express card, I automatically get a 2-year warranty for free! I also can use my American Family homeowner's policy to create a "personal protection" just for the laptop that covers damage/stolen/anything. It's $13 annually with a $50 deductible. The only thing I'm unsure of is, if I pay the $50 deductible, does that make my entire coverage go up due to filing a claim. Need to research that.

I've used my amex for all big purchases, i don't know anyone that has ever used it for a claim. I wonder if it really works, or if some sort of "devaluation" based upon use or age is introduced, like car warranties.

Oh, and I agree, the B&H AC is the way to go. I researched, couldn't find it for less.

You know, I called on it this morning and she said they'd honor the warranty exactly as it's written with Apple.

Just spoke with Amex myself. They match the warranty period. So, if you needed repairs, you would pay for it via your amex charge and they would credit you. Not too bad!

My previous 17in MacBook Pro Unibody the keyboard was starting to flake out. It was out warranty by Apple but still under the 2nd year by Amex. I took in to an authorized apple repair place and they replaced the keyboard with cover, and the DVD failed the internal tests. I called Amex with the estimate and they credited my account for the amount a couple days after I sent the estimate and receipt showing I purchased it with my Amex. If i remember correctly it was about $500-$600. It was very easy.

I just purchased a rMBP referb and I put it on my Amex. I have 2 years, one with Apple and the other with Amex. I feel like this is enough.

no you won't, Applecare is still an additional price on top of whatever mac you may purchase.

Not true in the UK - I bought a 13" rMBP with education discount and three years Applecare was included in the price - quote from the apple store:
Every new Mac purchased from the Apple Store for Higher Education comes with complimentary telephone technical support for one year from your Mac purchase date and three years of repair coverage.

The price is different between the 13" and 15" versions. The $183 educational price is for the 13" version.

Also, consider a personal articles policy from your homeowner/renter's policy. I have one. My policy costs $60 year, and covers theft, loss, accidental damage, and mechanical failure. It came in handy when I lost my MacBook Air last year.

Can i know which protection plan you have used which covers theft ...beacuse apple doesnt cover theft protection...is it squaretrade or applecare

You realize you're replying to a post from five and a half years ago, right?

Plus he very specifically said what covers theft -- a "personal articles" policy rider on his homeowner/renter's policy. Talk to whomever is providing your homeowner's or renter's insurance.

A personal articles policy from an insurance company is essentially a rider to a homeowner’s or renter’s policy and usually covers theft or loss.
