What is the best automated backup solution?

I just bought a 500GB Seagate 2.5" external HDD for $54.

* I don't have an ABES
* My current router doesn't have a port for USB

I use Dropbox (got 18GB) and FolderActions to automatically move files to the Dropbox folder.

What would be the best solution to back up my MBP to the external HDD? I move a lot with my MBP so I can't use it as TM.

I know my options are very limited here.

Why not time machine? What do you mean you move a lot? Can't you bring the hard drive with you?
I believe Time Machine is the best option out there.
