Try iFlicks

I've tried most of the video converting software available for Mac OS X. iFlicks is definitely one of the best since it can remux (video pass through) both H.264 MKVs and MPEG4 AVI (encoded with DivX/Xvid) and handle meta data.

Remuxing takes 1-10 minutes compared to re-encoding which takes anything from 20 min to 3 hours.

Visual hub is the best plus u can increase the volume

Actually Handbrake (v. 0.9.6 ) recently added gain control. VisualHub was cool for its time but Handbrake has far more/better features.

Avi cannot be simply remuxed to mp4 (usually avi uses .mp3 audio and DIVX/XVID video codecs). But yeah, if you can remux, don't bother transcoding with Handbrake!

i have used HandBrake ever ,but now i use a video converter through gotomkv.com

This is the most ignorant posting I have ever seen in my life.

MP4 tools is better than Handbrake

This is the most ignorant posting I have ever seen in my life.

I was talking about Handbrake. AVI to MP4 conversion is not efficient on Handbrake because it doesn't support PASS-THRU.

For example, most AVI's now have mpeg4 encoding for video. Since the appleTV supports that, there's no reason to re-encode that which takes a LONNNNNNNNG time. Plus you get worse quality than the original material.

MP4Tools is a MUCH better solution for AVI to MP4. Handbrake really is only good for DVD ripping.

Handbrake doesn't support Pass-Thru which makes it much slower for general file conversion. Most MKV's and AVI's wrap up an MP4 or MPEG4 which AppleTV can play.

At this point, iVI is probably the best ripper/converter/tagger/dump into iTunes/convert to Ipad, Iphone, etc

So a software like this? http://www.magix.com/us/mp4-converter/ Dunno if that's what you're looking for...my friend uses this software and seems to like it but I haven't personally used it (I use Handbreak). Honestly, you should just see if Handbreak works for you, it doesn't affect the quality at all...Is there a reason you don't want a free app?

So a software like this?

Sorry! I didn't read the fine print...turns out it's only for pcs (oops!) Hope you find a mac-friendly app! (dunno why they wouldn't make it for macs!!)

Sorry again...

Maybe it's me but I didn't like iVi's interface at all.
Not at all intuitive.
Plus the vids it produced could not be synced to my iPhone/iPad without a run through Subler first to correct the profile setting.

I'll stick with Handbrake and Subler.

I'm starting to wonder why you even posted the question when you seem to already have all the comparisons answered (by yourself). You have al your options now so this post should be case closed.

He probably seems like he has all the answers now because the original post was dated Mar 26, 2011, 01:29 PM...

I search for a good mp4 converter, with:
- high quality conversion
- use of all cpu cores
- speedy

I 've tried some of them, others are slow, other produce jerky video etc.

IVI regular

I just use the IVI regular version (no DVD import) that is available in the Mac App Store.

The tools suite, avitools, mkvtools, mp4tools is where it's at! Then run it through either identify or iFlicks 2.

ivi is not free on mac app store.... you mean avi lite?

i am fed up with handbrake....its so slowwwwwwwwww

ivi is better for mkv too?

Most avi's just need the audio transcoded from mp3 to mp4, the video is usually fine so I'll give Iflicks a try

I use IVI and it is really quick on my Air. 90% of the time, the video in the mkv's that I convert are just a pass through so it only takes about 5-10 min tops to convert a 5-6gb bluray rip. If it does have to convert the video it usually takes about 40-60 min. Still not bad. I just use the ATV3 preset and drag the files over and wait. Also automatically makes a separate stereo track out of the 5.1 track. Easy.
