I would suggest purchasing applecare later and on eay ofr 1/2 the price.

Now that's enough waxing lyrical, I'd like to ask you how hot it gets if that is ok?

I know this might sound weird, but I just can't deal with hot or even paticualrly warm laptops (on my lap) for medical reasons, and so am hoping to get something that is as cool as my current G3 clamshell ibook, but with the ability to deal with the online journals I need for uni next year.

I think it's the coolest laptop apple has at the moment and one of the coolest around. Go to notebook review, they have a nice layout with accurate temps for a lot of laptops, the air included (although I think they might have the previous gen). If by any chance the laptop is warmer than usual you can have them open it up and reapply some paste where the cpu is (paste goes between cpu and the active/passing cooling tec, heatsink etc.), but I think you won't run into such an issue. Just out of curiosity what are you gong to study?

Also go to the mba forum and we have a nice thread going there about updates and another from a student asking when to buy.

thanks for the recommendation, but here in the UK the HE price allows you to buy applecare for only about fifty quid anyway:)

It's also worth bearing in mind that Toshiba UK have a reliability refund scheme going until the end of this month. If your notebook develops a warrantiable fault within the warranty period (in the case of the R600, 3 years), they will repair or replace your machine - and give you your money back.

Apple would go bust in a year if they copied that.

i am just finishing my third year now, about to go into my fourth (and final) year reading classical archaeology and ancient history:)

Sounds very interesting, I am originally from Greece so I have dwelved a bit into the classics. :)

Btw, if you don't rush it wait up, if you can, for a month or so because we might see a minor speed bump in the air.

What fantastic advice this was!

Anyhoo, thought i'd give you guys a bit of an update. Basically, I managed to get to an apple store and see the new glassy screens and have come to the conclusion that i hate them! SImply don't get on with them at all, so i will be buying either the 2.13 air or the macbook in the next few weeks.

Any thoughts on a comparison of these two?

...I can see myself doing most of my papers (till it gets cold!) outside on some sort of sun-lounger type thing.

I am therefore looking for a new laptop that is reasonably priced, fine to use outside pretty much exclusively for word processing, some light internet and some light itunes......

so what would be the best option for working outside?

2. The heat of the laptops is very important: I need something that is cool on my man bits...

Except for the itunes: How about the eMate 300?
