What is the best laptop for single male college student?

Its basically new. Comes with a new battery (if it needs a new one) and keyboard and full Apple Care.

Agree re refurbished but it comes with a full one year warranty, not Applecare; Applecare has to be bought in addition to the standard one year warranty - at any time in the first year of purchase - and gives you cover for three years from the date of purchase.

Wait what does being single and male have to do with anything?

That question occurred to me as well.

I recommend the MacBook air for you since it meets all your needs would be faster than a MacBook pro possibly cheaper and looks amazing.

Agree, and it is also a lot lighter to carry and I assume that weight may be an issue if you are trudging around a campus carrying books and notes.

As a single male, he would prob need a macbook air. It's light enough to balance while typing with one hand. ;)

Either way, just get the base model 13" mbp from microcenter for $999

Being single means that chances are, he won't have to share the computer with anyone else. That cuts down on possible size if you're holding two main users. Two sets of iTunes music, applications, videos, preferences; if I had more than one person using my machine I wouldn't get anything less than a 500. I have a 320 now and it stays full.

Of course, if he were a female, chances are he wouldn't use that much media, in terms of downloading I mean. Not being sexist or anything here but numerous studies show men download more things than women on the computer. Whether it be music, movies, games, etc, generally it's going to be more.

And.. well, why not? If I'm jumping into something completely new, I'm going to give out as much information as I can. Taking a sociology class or two will tell you a LOT about certain people and their demographics; of course, experiences in life and being exposed to many different types of people helps as well.

The single thing... depends how desperate you are? If you want to show you're a reliable and strong (!) guy, I would show off w/ a MBP 17". If you want to be smooth and cool, buy a MBA (13", 11" would be girlish I guess).

For browsing, e-mailing, and Skyping (if you're mom has an iPhone or Mac, you can also use FaceTime), the MBA would actually just do fine. And it works faster as well.

If you buy now, Apple will reward you w/ a $100 gift card to buy iWorks. Most colleges should provide you w/ MS Office for free or a discounted price (max $50).

If you were involved with someone I'd say 11" MacBook Air with 128GB SSD.

Since you're single however I'd go with a 17" MacBook Pro, it's got a high-def screen and you can control it with the Apple Remote for when you want to pause particular moments in high def.

A. Please go to the apple store, or at least look at the comparisons online, they have a feature that does that for you.

B. Don't try to pick up girls with a computer. They don't care about your Mac and will not be impressed. I assume that's what you were getting at with the single male bit.

Whichever one you get, Password Protect login, enable privacy settings on browser, and keep ALL food and drink at least 5 feet away.

Backup your school work incrementally daily onto two CD's and keep these separately from the laptop.

And don't lend it to anyone outside of family.

stay single dude. that will give you more time to dial up the internet and take a look at apple's homepage and make an informed decision.

I like this advice. And find myself in complete agreement with it. Lol.

Cheers
