What is the black cover on the MAC HD used for?

I just want to remove the hdd in my Mac mini (late 2012 model),but just to find that I tear down the "platistic cover" wrapped on the hard drive, so, I am wondering what is that used for?

It's for keeping the printed circuit on one side from touching and accidental damaging.
