What is the Combo Updater? I have a friend that is having trouble installing the 10.5.2 update and it hangs on "configuring update". I was going to suggest to him to download the combo updater and install that.

Is that a good idea?

Thanks.

The combo updaters combine all OS updates up to that point into one update. For example, someone running 10.2 flat could not use the 10.2.8 updater, as that only works on 10.2.7 machines. They'd have to run the 10.2.8 combo updater to update straight to 10.2.8.

Combo updaters are used to 'skip' an update, by including all previous updates (from the last time you updated).

Combo - short for combination. Since it is an OS X update, one would assume that it combines all previous updates.

I understand that. I was just wondering if trying that would help when the software update was not working for him. However, he tried the combo updater and it works.

Thanks.
