4.3.3

Stupid question I bet, but I ordered this iPad the other day off of Newegg, and it says it's on iOS 4. I'm hoping it's something jailbreakable (doesn't seem to say anything)

So I was wondering if someone could tell me what the most recent jailbreak version is for the iPad 2? Thanks.

The ONLY version that can currently be jailborken is 4.3.3. Wait a week and the most current version 5.0.1 can jailbroken.

Thanks for the response. is there any way for me to find out the version before I get it? I'm kind of excited about the prospect of getting a jailbreakable device.

Damn. you'd think they'd be smart enough to put the actual version.

also, if it turns out that its on 4.3.4 or 4.3.5, should I just update?

pod2g, who is making the jailbreak, has advised people to update to 5.0.1 even if they are jailbroken on 4.3.3 in case apple releases 5.1 before the jailbreak for 5.0.1 is released. It is your call, but IF (that's a very big if) you do get it on 4.3.3 then it is your call to whether to risk it and stick with 4.3.3 and possibly miss the window to get 5.0.1 jailbroken, or cope with stock 5.0.1 knowing that you will be jailbreak it soon.

Will the GSM version of the iPad 2 be problematic for this jailbreak? Don't want to load 5.01 unless I am certain the GSM version will be OK. Cydia does show the 5.0.1 shsh saved. Currently running 4.3.3 w/4.10.01

The gent above me addresses some of my concerns. If by some wild chance I get the 4.3.3 version and jailbreak it, wouldn't Cydia have 5.0.1 on record for me?

Sometimes you can tell which firmware by production week.

I bought a sealed one on craigslist with production week 27 (july) and it was on 4.3.3 out of the box.

Check this link to find production week http://www.chipmunk.nl/klantenservice/applemodel.html

There's a wee bit of a problem in that I don't yet have the information required to find out. Essentially I'm trying to find out before it arrives because I'm a terribly impatient and anxious person lol. Yes there are more important things in life and no I don't give a crap about them right now. My last one was stolen and I've missed it quite a bit.

the SHSH blob trick doesn't work for 5.0 onwards. So if you have your SHSH for 5.0.1 and have 5.1 installed (obviously talking from a future perspective) and apple has closed the 5.0.1 signing window, you still cannot install 5.0.1, hence the warning to install 5.0.1 now.

Since your on 4.3.5 there is no reason not to update it to 5.0.1 straight away

iPad 2 and 4s have already been jailbroken on 5.0.1, any day now for a release :D

what exactly did you use to jailbreak 4.3.0? since jailbreakme was only made to work with 4.3.3

jailbreakme. The PDF exploit it used wasn't NEW in 4.3.3, it existed just fine in 4.3.0, and indeed in 4.2.1. See here for compatibility:

http://jailbreakzone.com/2011/07/02/jailbreakme-3-0-leaked-try-it-out-now/

There were varying reports, it seemed to work for some people, but not others. Definitely worked for me. I never saw the need to update past 4.3.0 once it was JB, until we got the go-ahead that 5.0.1 was going to be safe. So 4.3.0 is literally the only iOS version my iPad2 (64GB ATT) had ever run until about 3 weeks ago.

Edit: I see what happened. I jailbroke mine the moment it became available, but the 4.3.0 code was removed in later revisions. So for the majority of the time that jailbreakme 3.0 was up, you indeed had to be on 4.3.3. But right at the beginning, it worked on earlier releases.
