A quick update. SwiftKey finally had an update yesterday. Really wasn’t expecting this. But was hoping the issue with illegible text when typing would be fixed - especially on this site. Unfortunately no luck. The illegible text issue is still present.

It's been around for ages
SwiftKey has been around for ages or the update?

I’ve had SwiftKey for years and prefer it over the standard keyboard. But since the latest iOS it’s been terrible, especially here. I need to revert to the standard keyboard to be able to see text. I was hoping the SwiftKey update would’ve resolved this issue.

What exactly is the issue? The odd bar you mention in your original post is not a bug. In post #22, you said you fixed the washed out look. I've been using SwiftKey and haven't been noticing any issues with it.

That's strange. When I use SwiftKey, the text is totally dark. Any suggestions why this could be ?

Do you mean the keyboard is dark, as seen post #3? That is a theme. You can go into the SwiftKey app to change that. I'm using the Default X theme. Looks like you might be using the Oxygen Dark Blue theme.

Not the keyboard but the text itself as seen in this picture

Gotcha, that's the washed out look in dark mode, similar to post #22.

I played around with this some more and was finally able to reproduce it. It seems to happen when both of these are true:
  • The number row is displaying on the keyboard
  • Using 'Bottom' tabs in Safari
I'm not sure if this is an iOS bug, SwiftKey bug, or both...but turning off the number row, or switching to 'Compact' or 'Top' tabs stops the issue from happening.

Thanks BigBlur for sussing this out. Such an odd bug.

Not a big fan of it,but I've changed to compact and will test in this setting.

I'm having this same issue but it isn't limited to browsers. It seems to spuriously pop up, as in i can't predict which app or input field it'll appear in, but if it does appear, it always appears there.

Here it is in Proton's Lumo app.

Btw hitting the checkmark doesn't temporarily solve the issue; it just collapses the keyboard and the bar. When the keyboard reappears, so does the bar.

I've found out that this box is normal and it's used when completing forms. You can use the arrows to skip from one box to another.

I think certain apps on 26 have issues with screen placement. For example, on the reminders app, if you're a mending a reminder, it's so far up the screen that it's quite difficult to amend and then Save the amendment.

And as I type this post, the Post Reply button is obscured/covered by the Tick symbol.

now on iPhone 12 Pro/iSO 26.1, sometimes the keyboard pops up [blank] then wont release/withdraw, leaving me with 3/4 black screen??

this only started since iOS26. Any one got solutions? Only work around I found is to 'back out' of app and drive back in- very frustrating.

When I first installed 26, I had a fair few issues. In the end, the easiest fix was a clean install. In fact, I had to do this 3 times. Not fun, but eventually fixed most issues.
