I would like to have the SD slot deeper as in my old Asus EEE ie. so that when inserted the end of the card is nearly flush to the edge of the Air so that it gets flexed less.

USB 3.0 is all I want. The screen is perfect already. Higher storage (192 gb) on the base 13" would be nice but unlikely. Deeper SD slot would be nice as well.

I personally won't be upgrading my 2011 13" MBA, I am going to buy the new iMac on monday. But if I was in the market for a MacBook Air, I would want a RAM boost most. An improved display would be good but, honestly, the current display on the 13" MBA is incredible.

Yeah my 2011 MBA is more then enough for what i use it for however longer battery life would be the best upgrade along with a smaller chassis, im going to get the new Mac Pro this time round :D

zip drive

on a serious note though, these are the improvements that i would like to see before i buy one:

1) longer battery life for both the 11-inch and 13-inch models - i want to see 7hrs on the 11, and 10 hrs on the 13

2) make the hinges stronger / stiffer

The WWDC MBA will probably be my first mac (bought my first apple product, the ipod, a week ago... still use my zune more for personal use, ipod is just compatible with more things :p) but i wanna see cheaper SSD drives (bigger space for lower cost) and retina display.

the Zune was an amazing device. it was way ahead of its time and ahead of most other players in the industry. unfortunately it was poorly marketed and too late to the game. it also headed in the opposite direction at the time where mp3 players were progressively getting thinner and lighter, with even smaller screens. the Zune was a very thick device and the screen was huge (compared to the iPod).

the Zune wifi sharing feature was great

I had the Zune HD with the OLED screen, which was amazing before retina screens were even talked about. It was thin and small. The lack of apps killed it. To this day microsoft doesn't let 3rd party devs build apps for it (didn't matter for me), but it had better music quality than the ipod imo.

IPS displays

I can live with lower resolution but I want the better viewing angles. My desktop monitor has spoiled me.

Yeah, same here. I regularly find myself wishing that I could view my screen at an 87 degree angle instead of just 82. It really hampers my work.

Please excuse my ignorance, but what work do you do that would be affected by 5 degrees? Serious question, no intention of trolling.

It will never happen, but i would love to see dual thunderbolt ports for using two external monitors. It would make life a lot easier in terms of coding and being able to have a visual window open at the same time.

  • More storage as standard or a reasonable price for the upgrades
  • 8GB ram upgrade at a reasonable price
  • Improved colour accuracy/viewing angles
  • USB 3
  • Just for kicks - retina display

I'll probably be moving from the MBP, so the first 3 are important because I don't want to be downgrading. It's unlikely we'll get all of these though especially as the price is rumoured to drop slightly.

What happens if they remove the backlit keyboard?

Hmmm... would it be silly to buy an Air now?

Wouldn't buy it. I made the mistake of not getting a backlit keyboard for my current laptop and I regret it all the time. I'm often up late and enjoy working in lower-lit environments/in the dark and it's BRUTAL.

I'm not sure if he was being sarcastic or not but it's not 'just' 5 degrees, because the problems are intensified the further you are away from your screen. Texts, or videos are not clear if you view them from slightly-off directions. Most noticable if you turn your Air to show something to somebody else next to you.

Once you get used to IPS, you'll easily see the difference in color reproduction and viewing angles.
