Why does iPhone 12 need case with magnets if it has magnets itself? The phone surely can snap on magnetic accessories without the help of magnetic case?

Probably better magnetic contact instead of having a gap between the phone, case, and whatever add-on you're wanting to use.

I'm guessing the case have stronger magnets to hold onto accessories.

I’ve been wondering about this myself, the case doesn’t appear to be needed to get MagSafe to work, it just seems to me like a great way to extract more money from users.

Upon further investigation it appears that the magnet on the case is used to hold the case onto the phone (so the case doesn’t have to grip the phone).

The case doesn't wrap around the edges so it needs the magnets to stay on the phone.
