I put an Apple TV 3 on Kijiji today for $50.

I bought it used four years ago on Kijiji for $60. When they were new in Canada they were sold for $110.

Within 15 minutes I had 5 emails from prospective buyers, with some stating they were willing to come pick it up tonight. This is the most "in-demand" used item I think I have ever placed online.

So it seems there must be some reason that there is still this demand for the 3? I just bought a used 4 so thought I would sell the old 3, thinking at $50 I would be offered $40 and I'd settle with that, but now it looks like I undervalued it, and i don't know why. Maybe there is something I'm overlooking at it is worth keeping?

It is the last Apple TV with optical out for connection to older receivers without HDMI.

Also many use the Apple TV without a TV/video at all. They use it as a networked "Airplay bridge" to an audio system, which typically have optical in and not HDMI in because there is no video involved.

By airplay bridge do you mean they just have it connected to an audio system and use their phone to airplay music through wifi?

For many ppl, they might just want a simple, easy to set up and use streaming box.

Many people need a streaming box with popular apps such as Netflix, Hulu, HBO, YouTube, and iTunes.

The ATV does what they need it to, with a much better UI (imo), for a fraction of the price of a new ATV4/5.

I put one of my ATV3s in my bedroom, and many times I browse Netflix on it, find a show, then watch it on my ATV4 in my living room.

I find it much easier to navigate Netflix than my ATV4. I just wished it had Siri.

Or better yet, I wished it was possible to put the ATV3 version of apps on the ATV4.

That's surprising. IIRC, Apple dropped the price of the ATV3 to $50 (or was it $60?) in the refurb store after the introduction of the Apple TV4. Still have two AppleTV3's here and don't see much reason to update for my usage. 95% of the time they just play content from my large local iTunes library.

Yeah, but $50 seems expensive. Apparently the OP is talking about Canadian dollars, which would be about $40 USD. Still, I'm surprised people would pay this much. Maybe it's time to sell my ATV3's? ;)

Good to know. I am about to sell my ATV3, if only I could find it's long lost remote, has to be around my house somewhere.

For myself, about the only use I'd have for it would be Airplay mirroring, but that never worked reliably if the device mirroring it's display is on wifi (ATV3 is on wired network).

ATV3 was the worst Apple product I've ever owned, so it surprises me that anyone would pay even $50 for it. I was planning on giving it away for free.
