iPod touch What is this error?

I keep getting this error message: "Cannot connect to the store. A secure connection could not be established. Please check your date and time settings". What exactly is the problem here? ( this is on my iPod touch)I haven't been able to download anything from the app sore or iTunes. Thanks!

i get this from time to time and its usually during peak hours the itunes servers are probably getting overloaded.
