Unless its a cutout location for one. I personally dont think nfc will be present but there is some reason for the grooves. I cant think why theyd waste resources on it for no reason

Apple's patent is for an NFC antennae inside a metal case. No RF Window needed.

The guys at AnandTech apparently didn't know this when they published their comments.

A full metal backed iPhone could easily have NFC using Apple's patented design.
