What is this question mark in this folder?

it's just an alias for something you've probably deleted, nothing more. go to 'customize toolbar' in the view menu (with any finder window open) and drag it off... & it's gone.

While customizing your toolbar, you can just drag a folder into it. Then, the icon that is left on the toolbar will be an alias for the folder you dragged there. If you delete the actual folder, the icon turns into a question mark.

right; an alias is just a pointer to a file somewhere; if you delete the actual file, the pointer has... nothing to point to; hence, the question mark.

like if you delete an app, and the icon in the dock turns into a question mark...

Yes, just like a shortcut you might put on your desktop in Windows. It probably "points" to something you deleted, so you can now just drag the question mark off the tool bar.

very true! am used to just going into 'customize' to... customize the bar, but shortcuts rule!
