I don't have a reference picture in front of me, but I presume you're talking about the security hole. You can attach a special sort of lock to it to help impede thieves.

The line-in jack is to the left, the ExpressCard/34 slot to the right. I'm not sure what that hole above and to the right of the headphone jack is.

is it a quick eject thing for the express slot?

EDIT:

What is the port/hole in the macbook right in front of the headphone jack?

it's a kensington lock "port" so you can secure your macbook with a locking cable...

edit: nermal beat me to it.

and the OP said macbook, not macbook pro. (the picture posted by wildcowboy is of a macbook pro.)

On my Core 2 Duo MacBook Pro, there's a small flat-head screw there. Are you sure that just isn't a hole for a missing screw?

EDIT: Uh...like ChickenSwartz said.

That also reminds me of an MacBook Pro, and right where that is on mine, I have a screw.

I'll guess that it's a way of removing a 'stuck' card. Kinda like the pinhole on cdroms.

Crud...my brain inserted a "Pro" where there wasn't one.

Yes, it's likely the security slot the OP is referring to.

OK good, we are all in agreement, the thing next to the headphone jack in the MB is the security hole for a securing cable. (where as in MBP this is a missing screw)

Yes, no thanks to the idiot who confused the entire thread by posting a picture of a MacBook Pro.

Dumbass.

Yea, I just got the ports twisted around. I forgot that they put that in the middle of the machine. Makes me wonder why they did that. Seems so awkward.
