What is the port/hole in the macbook right in front of the headphone jack?
I don't have a reference picture in front of me, but I presume you're talking about the security hole. You can attach a special sort of lock to it to help impede thieves.
The line-in jack is to the left, the ExpressCard/34 slot to the right. I'm not sure what that hole above and to the right of the headphone jack is.
is it a quick eject thing for the express slot?
if i understand the question right, yes it is the security slot.
Do you mean this part?
There's no ExpressCard sloit on a MacBook. I think he's talking about the line-in jack.
it's a kensington lock "port" so you can secure your macbook with a locking cable...
edit: nermal beat me to it.
and the OP said macbook, not macbook pro. (the picture posted by wildcowboy is of a macbook pro.)
Is this a MB or MBP? Looks just like a MBP, the "hole" looks like a missing screw.
On my Core 2 Duo MacBook Pro, there's a small flat-head screw there. Are you sure that just isn't a hole for a missing screw?
EDIT: Uh...like ChickenSwartz said.
That also reminds me of an MacBook Pro, and right where that is on mine, I have a screw.
I'll guess that it's a way of removing a 'stuck' card. Kinda like the pinhole on cdroms.
MacBook or MacBook Pro???
Crud...my brain inserted a "Pro" where there wasn't one.
Yes, it's likely the security slot the OP is referring to.
Did you read the first post?
OK good, we are all in agreement, the thing next to the headphone jack in the MB is the security hole for a securing cable. (where as in MBP this is a missing screw)
Yes, no thanks to the idiot who confused the entire thread by posting a picture of a MacBook Pro.
Yea, I just got the ports twisted around. I forgot that they put that in the middle of the machine. Makes me wonder why they did that. Seems so awkward.
The pic confused me, i did a edit about 10 seconds after i re-read the posts
why did he say macbook and I saw like 6 pictures of mbp's...whatever, I think you guys got it figured out. Funny post with everyone arguing though.
People just need to remember to read the first post.
ha! i was about to say something about calling that person a dumbass until i realized it was you!
i do think you're being a bit hard on yourself. it's a bit late, non? perhaps you were just a wee bit tired when you posted the picture?
Nah...just reading too fast.
Where did you get a picture of a MBP with a missing screw, it is missing a screw right?
You know, it could be that it's a spot where Apple put a screw and it's a eject slot for the ExpressCard slot.
I think it is a missing screw. Interestingly, it came directly from Apple's support site.
Thanks for all the replys it is a Macbook and i from the pictures it is the kensington lock port or whatever lol where would i get a lock for it?
