What is under the MBPr trackpad and can I clean under it?

I think some crumbs got into the small crevice where the MBPr trackpad meets the rest of the notebook.

Is there a way to get it out?

I believe if you take it apart you should be able to clean out the trackpad but I'm not totally sure since I haven't needed to do that.
