First off:

Download Firefox to use hotmail. It doesn't matter if Safari has worked in the past, stop being stubborn and putting up with something that's your fault (for not even examining the alternative, Firefox, to fix the problem).

Get gmail and have gmail import all of your contacts and notify them of your new address. Problem solved.

thanks, i used that link and just got in...feh, stupid hotmail.

Glad I could help.

Clearly either MS has gone out of their way to make it seem like safari is incompatible with hotmail, or they're just so incompetent that they couldn't make it work correctly even though the simplest workaround is all that's need, or they're so arrogant or spread thin that they think it's not worth spending a dime to fix it. I'm not sure which of those would be worse, but all of them are really bad condemnations.

Why then does FF handle it fine? Maybe it is Apples problem? I don't know...

It was a helluva lot easier to just switch to FF and forget about it (for me)

gmail locks up my machine...

I use FF for my only Hotmail account that I will not change
I use Safari for everything else

But I am curious, why does Gmail lock up your machine?

That's my point, isn't this apples problem? Or do you think MS hates Apples so much that they purposely sabotage their code to not run on safari?

Personally I DO think MS has made Hotmail hard to use with Safari
I don't think it is necessarily a problem with Safari

Actually, FF 2 works reasonably well, but Hotmail still will not recognize FF 3 last I checked
It only uses Classic mode
That is true of Camino as well

FF 2 is the only thing I found that will access Hotmail Live on the Mac
There may be others, but that is why I use FF 2

My point is that it can't be Apples problem if we're able to enter hotmail by going directly to hotmail's login page first. At the very least all MS would have had to do is detect users who are using safari and direct them to the hotmail login page that works fine in Safari. This would take any amateur web programmer about 5 minutes of work to implement.
