If you look at the bottom of the screen there are rainbow looking shapes that go along the bottom. The brighter the screen the more noticeable it is.

Any idea what it is? Phone isn’t in warranty anymore it’s a launch XR.

Possible water damage? Applied some pressure at the bottom? I have a feeling Apple will not replace your iPhone for free even if you have AppleCare.

Never been near water.

It seemed to appear after having the phone under the sun on a hot day and has got worse ever since.

Wanted to know if anyone else had experienced this as I’ve not seen anything like it before online.

you answered your question:
Sun/heat damage
since the problem occurred after leaving it in the sun.
I've never seen that before. Musta got really hot

I definitely agree it’s from sun exposure. (However, it shouldn’t continue to Deteriorate) Leaving your phone out under the sun can damage in a matter of a few minutes or less, even indoors, the display is not safe from sun exposure.
