After decades of warning people not to install official 10.xx.0 and even 10.xx.1 releases of Apple's OS X, we get a "first beta" which is much better and more solid than some of the past "final releases" (just enjoy the privilege of late birth, if you do not remember, e.g., OS X Lion 10.7). Obviously I do not understand Apple anymore or I am just getting old...

I wouldn't say what's wrong, but praise them instead, it shows how the quality of coders, designers, and others are actually taking the time to really search for bugs or other issues, much like how it used to be in the good ole' days before they rushed anything and everything to market.

There was a slew of HORRIBLE day one Beta's I've installed in the past.

So far I'm happy with 13, as it's such a change (certain things), but there have been a couple previous where I thought it was ready to just roll out to the masses.

That stable, eh?

Debating on upgrading as I have an M1 Pro machine and I’ve heard there have been issues with internet connectivity.
That being said, I have run every beta since 10.7… And yes, Lion was the worst of the bunch.

The internet issue pertains to not completely un-installing LittleSnitch (properly) once done there have been zero issues. But save yourself the troubles of having to re-install Monterey, then back to Beta.

I’ve installed iOS, iPadOS, and macOS and they’re all fantastic. Not visually buggy and crashy like betas usually are.

I would hope it means they're taking user concerns seriously and focusing once more on the reliability of their software.

That's the main reason I've kept my old Mac Pro with Mojave. That OS is so solid. The Lexus LS400 of computers.

Or it means that there's so little new that they spent time refining the OS....wich is really what people want nowadays.

Same experience. I got one error on my iPhone at the start, that's all. Im sure my production system with all its lower level drivers and 3rd party software might have a few issues, so im not installing Ventura there, but all my daily drivers are doing great so far (MacBookPro iPhone iPad)

Maybe? what software are you running? we have a thread wiki thread/post showing everything that's working. it's a pretty good (long) list.

Yes, ive contributed to that list.
It doesn't cover most of what is used for a high end audio production system nor hardware driver and system extensions. Something usually breaks and needs an update even when upgrading to macOS release versions.

Say Apple will tweak security settings and some audio hardware drivers are unable to load. Metal will be tweaked and an audio plugin GUI will not appear. ProTools will decide it's not supported and refuses to try and even load, etc.

Since that's my bread and butter and a fine tuned and complicated system, I don't play around with Beta's on it. Leave it up to the other Devs to make some progress first.

am anxious too about this (in my case, 3rd-party plugins in logic pro). i've been thru all sorts of hell over the years in previous OS betas. but that, of course, won't stop me from diving into the public beta next month 🤣

EDIT: it's great to explore the threads on the ventura forum before the public beta people show up... and the incessant whining and ranting begins; developers, at least, understand the concept of a beta.

I'll download the demo right now and tell you!

Downloaded and installed correctly. Installing sounds now.

Looks like it works perfectly.

Now you're speaking Gaelic I've never really used the program, sorry.

huh! i wasn't even aware that i knew any gaelic!

it's the synths and effects from non-apple developers where there are often issues; logic itself is an apple app (yet, sadly, has had rough moments thru some of the previous betas).

you'd think that apple would keep it's OS team in sync with it's logic and final cut teams, but... no...

if you want to list them, I can try downloading if they are free.

I feel your pain (and @fisherking). I'm only a hobbyist but musicians generally get forgotten about. Even when I watch review channels, what few of them do show you any audio-related specs limit themselves to showing you how many consecutive tracks they can play, as if that actually shows us something, considering we've absolutely no idea what plugins are on the tracks.

Classical especially seems to get shafted the worse.

We've killed band and orchestra/choir in schools, it's so sad.

I'm in a FB group for amateur songwriters and home producers, and recently someone asked a question, how much does your family listen to and give constructive feedback on your music. One guy said his 13 year old daughter just rolled her eyes at him when he asked if she wanted to hear his latest song, and said "OMG Dad literally no one my age listens to music any more."

If that's the case, I can't avoid this sounding like a tired old person, but they're welcome to their world and I'm happy I'm realistically at least three quarters through my life, I lived through the absolute best of times, music-wise.

Apologies to OP for going off-topic.

it all gets sorted. i've been using logic since 2009, and have been on the OS public beta program since it started. there have definitely been some rough moments, but that's my bad... for being on the betas.

99% of the plugins (synths, effects, etc) i use are 3rd-party. so will deal with the challenges, and be happy when we get to the point we get to with every OS; where everything works (or mostly works), and/or there are other tools to move to.

More what is wrong with you OP

I installed Ventura on my thunderbolt drive (As a clean install). Was totally blown away by how snappy it felt, how every app that I use was working perfectly. And some apps (Lightroom classic) seemed to be way snappier while editing.

Since I have lived most on my life with this "can't wait and will install beta software" thing, I wiped my main partition and clean installed Ventura. Besides a bug where Lightroom would not pick the monitor color profile (fixed after resetting Lightroom), I am yet to see an issue.

But then I thought, it might be placebo right? So I clean installed Monterey on my TB drive and NO!!! It's not placebo. Mac OS 13 is much faster/snappier and all the good things I hoped for. Maybe it's metal 3, I don't know.

My system config is Mac Studio Ultra / Pro Display XDR.

So far I have rendered and delivered 3 projects to may clients and chugging away on a render in Davinci as I write.

I am hopeful!!!! 😁
