Had an iPhone X since release day and battery health at 91%.. i did let the battery go to 0% before charging to 100% a couple of times before knowing it was actually bad.

Dont wanna make any mistakes on my iPhone 11, so whats the best way to charge it to keep good battery health?
And also take advantage of the new Optimized Battery Charging.

You have any routine when charging?

80/20% rule - just avoid extreme states of charge. Don't leave iPhone plugged in overnight.

20-85% using 5w adapter
Fast charge with USB-C if I’m going to a place without an outlet
No overnight charging
Launch day XS Max at 99% capacity

2 year old iPhone X. I’m a heavy user and my phone is always plugged in whenever there’s a chance. Even at home, my phone is always plugged in while using. No overnight charging, fast charging or wireless Qi charging for me. The standard 5W power adapter is still the best. Battery health is now at 95%.

Using 20% and 80% charge levels on a 1 month old iPhone 8. Have been using the iPad 12W charger and it charges from 20 to 80% in about 50 minutes with barely any iPhone heating. May switch to the 5W charger.

I use low power mode all the time, turn off wi-fi when taking phone away from home, and set Do Not Disturb midnight to 8am, these things might extend the battery life a bit. I was powering off the phone during sleep time but stopped that due to worries it might wear out the power button (2 button presses a day). I wish iOS had automatic power off/on times for a nightly shutdown. Phone uses about 5% battery overnight, in a year that’s equal to about 18 full charge cycles.

Mine is when it needs it basically!

Almost two years old and the battery health is 88%. iPhone 8 Plus...heavy user.

So with the 20/80% you charge the phone once your about 20% and stop charging when u are around 80%? Just to make it clear?

Cant be bothered with all that TBH.

I charge the phone whenever I need to, usually on my desk at work.
Sometimes I charge overnight if I need to.
Never had any battery issues.

I like to just use the phone. I'll get the battery replaced if I ever need to rather then worry about battery health. And Im certainly not going to keep watching it charge so I can unplug it at 80% !

I always charge my phone overnight.

It tells me 96% capacity on a year-old XS, which I think is low, but it's not terrible.

I also discovered 'optimized charging' in iOS which only charges the phone to 80% before actually charging to 100% when you're about to take it off the charger (based on daily routine).

I'm not going to ever overthink this, I just need my phone to be charged in the morning and the results of this routine have been fine over the past 11 years.

While the 80/20 rule is great. That's just too much maintenance for me. I have several docks. I leave it charging most of the time. Be it car, desk, nightstand or end table. When it isn't on the charger. I don't go through much battery anyway. I don't game with it or watch videos and rarely listen to music with it walking around. The biggest drain are those blasted autoplay videos and javascript ads in Flipboard when reading the news.

I agree, while 8/20 rule can be great. But it's just too much just to this on a smart phone. I've never had issues with the battery capacity dropping. I have used a smart battery case on my xs max, and still was at 100% capacity before I traded it in for iUP, and has been fully charged all the time to 100%.

Does using the Smarty Battery Case affect anything? Im on a Xs Max and Its constantly at 100% charge until the battery case runs out.

I charge mine overnight, when connected to CarPlay, and while I'm driving for Uber and Lyft, and my iPhone Xr is at 100% battery health. These Lithium-ion batteries will only charge to 100% and then go to a trickle charge that will keep it at 100%. All of these other issues are for Nickle-Hydride batteries.

Xs Max purchased on launch day, 2018 ... battery health still at 100%.

I charge it wirelessly (Mophie) over night every night... still it on the charger sometime between 10pm and midnight... and get up around 5:30-6am and take it off the charger.

I also plug it in in my car (CarPlay)...

BTW, same routine with my S4 Watch. On the charger at bedtime, off when I wake up. I take it off to shower, but don't charge it at that point.

I always charge it during the night when I'm a sleep. My 2 year old X was at 94% battery health when I sold it two weeks ago when I got my 11 Pro.

I rarely let it drain to < 10% though. Sometimes, to "calibrate" the battery I will completely drain it. Other than that, I will let it drain to max 20% before I put it on a charger.

I don't have a routine, I mostly charge the phone at work where it might be either charged fully within a few hours or just a portion every few hours, depending on the meetings that I have to get out of.

But I also use the phone heavily for creating personal hotspots, which I think "destroyed" my battery.

iPhone X 256 launch day, 2 years old now, battery health is at 87%.

5W Charger overnight to preserve battery health (slower is better)

18W Charger as backup for quick fix charging.

Don't carry a powerbank for my XR.

I've been charging my 11 Pro overnight with the supplied charger every night. Some nights when I plug it in I am at 40% and sometimes its 10%, when I wake up its at 100%.

I got used to charge my phone over night and after 2.5 years my 7+ went down to 84%. Now I want to take care more of my 11 but I’m still worried about over night charging. With that optimized charging option I think it will be less painfull for the battery over night.
