I just placed my order for my first dslr, a D60, and I am looking for a case now. I would like two different cases, one to hold just my camera and maybe an extra lens and a couple small accessories, and another bag to hold all of that and my laptop and maybe a book or two. What is your favorite bag for these two situations?"

For small; a cheap soft, plastic, insulated-lined lunch bag. It'll hold a camera and one lens easily and the insulated sides, top and bottom offer decent protection. Also, the bag doesn't say "steal me! I'm an expensive camera!". Someone would less likely steal what they thing is a peanut butter and jelly sandwich.

As far as caveats go, I should say that I prefer shoulder bags. Having said that, when I travel, I use a Tamrac 5618. I do have a Lowepro 650, but it is just too much for an airline carry-on. The Tamrac is perfect for my needs and has been halfway around the world more than once. For walking around, I have a Lowepro Specialist 85 (plus some accessories - waist belt, shoulder harness, etc.) that I've been quite happy with.
