1st gen 512mb iPod Shuffle ($99) was the first
1st gen 2gb ipod nano after I killed the shuffle by trying to check out its guts

iPhone

First and current: iPod software in iOS 3.1.3 on a refurbished first generation iPhone, gifted to me.

My first iPod was the 30GB iPod Classic, which I bought new, unopened from a friend for $100. He bought it, well ordered it, for use on deployment to Iraq, but it didn't arrive until after he had left - he ordered too late! Later on, a couple of years, he still had it in the original packaging and I offered him the money for it and he accepted.

I still have and use it today, in my car, where it sits connected to the car stereo via USB in the center console.

I never owned an iPod and never wanted to. I started out with a PSP then I moved on to a Zune until I got my first iPhone.

4th gen, I think it was 20 GB, bought in Australia when I was over there in 2005. According to my bank statement it was NZ$413.86. My brother may still have it; I'm not sure.

My first iPod was a second generation iPod mini which was given to me as a gift. The first iPod that I paid for myself was a fifth generation iPod which I believe cost $249. I lost the 5th gen but I still have the iPod mini. I remember being so disappointed because the iPod nano was announced just three months later and it made my mini look so uncool! Around that time I started following MacRumors so I could keep an eye on what was coming next so that wouldn't happen again

The first iPod I received was a gift, the 1st generation iPod nano, 1GB, Black, $249; but the first iPod I ever bought was a 1st generation iPod shuffle, 512 MB, $20 on eBay.

If it counts...

Microsoft Zune 30GB Brown. I think it was almost $300!

My first iPod was a 20GB iPod classic 3rd Generation. It was $399. I still have it, and have replaced the battery once.

The one I currently use is a 160GB classic that I've had for about a year ($249).

My first iPod was the 20GB 4th Generation iPod (b&w display) made by HP.

I paid $0 because I actually got it from *********.com or something by referring people to sign up for credit cards. No joke, I got in on this pyramid scheme before it got too big. Incidentally, I got my first TV and my first Mac Mini G4 the same way. :-D

I like how this site censors free][pods.com haha

Still have mine and it works just fine

Mine was a 15 gig 3rd gen iPod. Loved that thing and it still holds a charge and has all my music from 2005 on it. Think I paid 399.00. I also remember buying a 512 stick shuffle for 99.00 I think. Still have that as well.

My first was a 20GB second-gen (i.e. the first with the touch wheel rather than the mechanical wheel).

Second was a 40GB (I think) iPod Photo with a colour screen and everything.

Kept that until I got a 1st-en iPod Touch. That's what made me certain the iPhone would be a great purchase. Got a 3GS, then a 4, a 5 and now a 6.

5th generation, 2006 or so. 30gb in black. Still works, but battery is a bit weak . Paid whatever it was Apple asked for it back then.

Ipod original 10G scroll wheel , bought it when it came out- still in use, was $499. Restored it recently I put in a 20G HD and higher cap battery (well hi-cap or so claimed by newtech).

Only one I ever had or need . :)

I had a first generation iPod scroll wheel and thought it cumbersome and high maintenance and took it back. The 'remote' was a little bizarre too.

Got one of the first iPods without the physically turning wheel, and liked it much better. The hard drive crashed in it just out of warranty. So it goes...

iPod 3rd Generation (with the RED LED touch buttons), first iPad to use the dock connector i believe. got it for $250 msrp $300 (brother in law had educational student discount at the time)

For me, it was the 2nd generation iPod nano, 4GB of storage in (PRODUCT)RED. Beautiful device until I let my brother borrow it and it got stolen out of his car. It even had my name and phone # engraved on it. Haha.

I'm not sure what I payed, it was $199 MSRP, but I think it got a good discount with our mid 2007 iMac it came with.

To me, the "neo mini" iPod nanos were the most attractive iPods ever produced. Slim, stylish, understated.

For me, I purchased an iPod with video 5th gen, 30GB for $299 in late 2005. Broke it afterwards (I think after a year) after I was stupid and jogged across the street with the iPod in my hoodie pocket; it fell out and, while playback was fine, the click will had popped itself out. Fixing that required opening up the entire iPod, and my patient died on the operating table.

Picked up a classic in 2007 that's been rocking like a champ since.

16gb 4th gen Nano. Still going strong despite going through a full cycle in the washing machine a while ago. My favourite iPod for exercising and audiobooks (no need to swipe and look for the pause icon, just press pause)
