I recently bought a new Unibody MBP, the 2.53 GHz variant with a 7.200 rpm HDD.

As I also have a white MacBook (Spring 2008), I am really confused about the MBP's short battery life, be it either with the 9400 or the 9600 graphics adapter.

I only get about 2.2 hours while I just surf (be it the 9400 or 9600).
The white MB gives up to 5 hours.

Also the battery's capacity loses 2-4% per hour in sleep mode while not attached to the power adapter.

So I would like to know, how many minutes you get with you MPBs.

    Sorry for the double post.

Can my two threads be somehow merged, with the poll included?

I do get a much better battery life running off the 9400M.

3-4 hours if I'm just surfing the web (no flash content though) and the brightness 4 bars off full.

I'd say 3 hours is average. But it depends what I'm doing - if I'm watching a video, listening to music or just browsing, and it depends what I'm browsing. Flash content (e.g. YouTube) will cause the CPU usage to jump, having an impact on battery.

    MBP 2008 battery life

I've been used to 4-5 hours with a Macbook, but with the 9400 video, 320GB disk, 4 GB RAM, 2 bars below middle LED screen illumination, and minimal disk activity, my battery life is just above 3 hours. It's pretty disappointing, but not out of spec either. Nevertheless, I'm puzzled as to why it's so much less. There are lots of times, I would give up performance for battery life if I had a way to do it. I often wind up editing long papers on airplane or train rides, and nearly always get a low battery nag.

Does anyone know any tricks for stretching a new MBP battery?

Using the GeForce 9400M I get around 4 and a half to 5 hours under normal load with some occasional web pages containing Flash, and with the GeForce 9600M GT I get around 4 to 4 and a half hours under normal load.
