What kind of case person are you?

What kind of case do you use? Are you:
• The overprotective: buys Otterbox defender or armor or Life proof case
• Fashionista: buys cases for glam, not for protection
• The accesorizer: buys cases with built in wallets, stands, etc.
• The risk taker: doesn't use a case
• The animal lover: buys a case with an animal shape or picture on the back
• The average joe: buys a normal case just for the sake of having a case on.

The reason I'm asking is because I want to know if I should use a case or not on my 5S. And if I need a case, I want to know what kind of case.
 
My InCase Slider, which isn't fancy and just provides basic protection, probably means I'm an average joe. :)

It has quite a bit of "battle damage" already, which is annoying but I feel much better when I realize the phone would have that damage if not for the case. The Slider is more about protecting the phone from scrapes, bumps, etc. than outright high drops, which I've managed not to subject the phone to.

I highly suggest a case for your 5S, even if just for the psychological effect. "My phone is protected, so I don't have to baby it as much."

Very happy with it; I may buy a replacement when this one gets a bit more scarred.
 
I use a Belking Grip Candy case. It's kind of a hard rubber with full 360 protection but adds surprisingly little bulk. They also look pretty nice.

I don't want to drop this thing and damage it, but the Otterbox type things are just too big and bulky. It's not going to protect it from a fall off of a balcony, but it will prevent the corners from getting all banged up if it falls out of a pocket (which happens to me a lot).
 
I use the Zagg screen protectors for the screen. I use a cheap back cover from eBay the covers the back and sides and I keep that in a sleeve.
 
I got a case for my 5 on launch day. Clear case. However, I became annoyed that almost every week I had to open it up and clean gunk out around the bezel. I further became annoyed that because it was plastic I wasn't able to clearly see the phone through it as it became scratched and less than clear over time.

That's when I abandoned cases. I hate Otterbox period, so this case I had was an attempt to have some form of protection while being able to see the phone as intended. Didn't work.

So, I live with any damage I may have. That's what AC+ is for. So far, other than wear and tear and a few nicks I've put there myself because I am an idiot, it's done alright. About nine months to go in my contract and the phone is doing just fine.

So…by your table, I'm a "risk-taker".

BTW, my wife is NOT a risk-taker, so she is using my old case and because it's clear has no problems with it. She has the white iPhone 5 so it really makes her phone stand out. Something, I was NOT expecting when she put the case on her phone.
 
protection but lightweight

I bought the Tech21 Impact Mesh Case for iPhone 5/5s in teal after my Otterbox commuter broke within 2 weeks of purchase.

This Tech21 case has protected my iPhone 5 from several drops (never dropped my iPhone before this one.) And it's lightweight. That's all I ask.

Not bothered about looks. I just need lightweight protection and this case delivers for me.
 
Bumper and front and rear screen protectors. Works perfectly and still shows off most of the phone.

I use the Griffin Survivor on all my iOS devices.
 
I am a switcher . . .
On vacation might use a Magpul or Candyshell Grip
At work the Veil or a thin polycarbonate.
Almost never go without a case.
But I end up with a box of cases sitting around, rotating between 3 favorites.
 
For both the wife and I, we buy our iPhones and pick up a couple of Caudabe Veils and then call it a day. We're pretty careful with our phones so the thinner the case the better.

Had the Spigen tough armor in black. Great case. Just got the Lunatk Taktik Strike today. It's alittle bulky but what a great designed case.
 
I've tried a lot of different cases, but ultimately I'm an ultra thin case kind of guy. Cases like the Caudabe Veil are excellent because they keep the iPhone as close to its original form as possible. The only issue is that because they're so thin, they're vulnerable. But I'm generally not Mr. Butterfingers and haven't had an issue.
 
You need "the minimalist".

Thinness is my main consideration when considering a case.

I don't care about drop protection. I just need scratch protection.

Skins peel and attract lint so I don't bother with those.
 
I buy cases that look good and provide minimum protection against scratches and scuffs. That's about it.

I was a no case/bumper person but ever since I dropped my phone of a K-Loader 2 and a half stories high.. my replacement phone has been in a Ballistic SG Maxx ever since
