I have an ultraportable VAIO that works out of the box with Ubuntu, wireless-wise. I hate it though. Quite frankly, I'd rather use Windoze.
 
I use Ubuntu in a virtual machine. It's the only one I know how to setup, but installing the VMWare tools were a pain in the behind.

That's the beauty of a VM though. You still have access to all the VMWare and Ubuntu tech support whilst you do the installation. Yeah it was harder to install the tools than onto Windows, but it's all there on the Ubuntu forums step by step to follow.
 
Back in the day it was Red Hat Linux.... ya know when it used to be free. (Note: It wasn't called Fedora back then, it was simply RHL.)

I haven't tried Fedora, though it looks rather lovely.

I'm a big fan of Kubuntu. I always liked KDE better than GNOME for some reason. To each their own I suppose.
