Well, then shame on you for not looking at what it's about to delete. :) It puts a list right in your face. Nothing hidden from you. Then... for "touchy" files it even asks you to authenticate what you're about to nuke - again, listing what those files are and giving you a chance to abort.

Shame on me? I've never used it, and it would never touch my machine. I'm perfectly aware of how it works, but the absolute truth is that if you're an experienced enough user to avoid the significant pitfalls, you should be able to do the important things it does faster and easier without it. If you're not, then you're far too likely to run into trouble when using it.

Claiming you're not a shill doesn't convince anyone, btw, especially when you haven't been accused of being one.

I would rather use the Resources available ON the OS than use a third party "cleaner". Those can cause even more problems by removing things novice users should not mess with.

I'd take the advice given on the forum FAQ and other stickies provided here at MR. I have had to do a clean boot being a new user and had all the same questions I see daily here from newbies. All answered by simple research and familiarization with the OS. And a lot of help from the mod's/veterans here.

If you believe reviews about third party cleaners then you are part of the problem. What works for one person does not always work for another, especially when told to just download something to clean automatically. That is no help.

Take the advice from "experienced users" two of the biggest pieces being that the he/she needs to get a bigger HD (40GB is barely enough for a couple apps, an OS, Recovery and some user's documents) as well as moving the itunes library to an external. If disabling local snapshots is an issue then do not do it, however, that same external you keep your music on can be used for a time machine partition. I have found no use for local snapshots myself, as most documents can still be reverted without it. You really don't have a whole lot of options with such a small SSD.
