What macpro generation am I?

Hey, I'm new to the forums and to macs. I'm having serious video card issues and everything I've read on the subject suggests that the card has heat sink issues and that a new card is required. I'm out of warranty and was just wondering if I had to go through the apple site to purchase a new card or could I just figure out what models are compatible with my mac and purchase one from a retailer or ebay?

The card I'm using now is ATI Radeon X1900 XT and is PCIe bus. I'm using Mac OS X 10.4.11 and I have a mac pro that I purchased in 2007.

If there's any additional information I need to post just let me know.

Is there a good retailer you can direct me to? My card works fine in the OS but when I play WoW (yes, I'm one of those...) it tends to generate artifacts or shut the display off completely.
 
The X1900XT has had its long known heat issues. Since you're on Tiger you're limited to the 7300GT and yet another X1900XT.

That is unless you have an aluminium iMac to clone the HD2600XT drivers off of.

I'm surprised you made such an expensive computer purchase without that little bit of knowledge.

Here is a PC video card flashed with the proper Mac video BIOS. It looks like a VisonTek. The cooler and BIOS that Apple provided with their stock models saw a silent revision to correct heat problems. If you're under warranty I'd give Apple a call first about your overheating GPU.

Why buy a Mac Pro?
